The ignition method of diesel is different from that of gasoline. Gasoline needs to be mixed with air and then ignited by a spark plug, while diesel needs to be ignited in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment.

The high-temperature and high-pressure environment of the diesel engine is formed by the compressor compressing the diesel to an almost liquid state. When diesel is injected into a high-temperature and high-pressure environment, it quickly evaporates and then begins an oxidation reaction, that is, it is ignited. The oxidation reaction of diesel requires a certain amount of air, so air needs to be added to the diesel engine so that the diesel can be ignited.

However, diesel is a very dense liquid and cannot naturally form atomization in the air. Instead, it forms some larger oil droplets. These oil droplets cannot surround oxygen molecules in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment to carry out oxidation reactions. Therefore, in order to allow the diesel to form an atomized state after compression, the diesel engine uses a high-pressure pump to inject the diesel into the combustion chamber, and uses a nozzle to inject the injected diesel at a very high speed.

When diesel is injected into the combustion chamber at high speed, a high-speed airflow is formed, which divides the diesel into very small droplets. After these small droplets are mixed with air, they form an atomized state that can undergo oxidation reactions, allowing diesel to be quickly ignited in high-pressure and high-temperature environments.
